As the song says “Oh! What a night”! Friday 18th August 2017 was a very good night for the Flyers at the Twilight 5k and 10k races.
Entry to the 5k required runners to have results which would show they could complete the distance in under 20 mins (for the men) or under 22 mins (for the ladies). We had 2 runners taking part in this race, Jim Last and James Howlett. Jim was our first runner to finish in a PB of 16.04, over 20 secs. off his previous best and he was 2nd MV40. A lack of training due to injury hampered James slightly but a time of 19.08 is one that many of the club would love to equal.
In the 10k, 25 Flyers raced their socks off with 11 of them lowering their PB’s. Adam Howlett was the first Flyer home in this race in 35.01, in 5 place overall and 2nd MV45. He was closely followed by Chris Leek, Nick Hammond, Will Aldred and John Aldred who all finished within a minute of each other. Chris, Will and John also lowered their PB’s. Our first lady home was Geraldine Clarke, 2nd in her age group and 13th lady overall, in 42.40. Other Flyers achieving new PB’s were: James Bouldin (46.54), Linda Aldred (48.06) Clare Moodie (49.07) Jon Moodie (49.26) Nicky Roper (50.36) Holly Burroughs (50.48), Sarah Edwards (56.48) and Annette Huggins (60.08).
The 10k was also the County championship and Vivienne Taylor won her age group here, with Annette Huggins 3rd in the same age group. Jan Green was 2nd in her age group in the county.
