Beginners no more – They’re Graduates now

On Monday 17th July, 14 of those who started out on their quest to become runners 10 weeks earlier, took part in the 3rd of the Clubs 5k Handicap races on the final week of the beginners course.   13 of them completed the race with Carole McKenry the first runner home.   Unfortunately 1 of the group pulled a muscle just before the turnaround point/finish and could hardly walk so was not able to complete the race.   However she is determined to return to the club once the muscle is recovered.

The following Monday, 24th July, most of these 14 came along for their introduction to club night proper where Ricky had an excellent, if testing, session planned on the sports field.   This meant that although several of the graduates were concerned about being last or that someone would have to wait for them, the format of a 400 metre loop meant that no one was “at the back”.   This, along with the times posted at the handicap race, should give them the confidence to continue their improvement in running.
