Awards Night 2018

At the Framlingham Flyers Awards Dinner, held on Saturday 9th February 2019 at Kingfishers Golf Club, Cretingham, the following awards were presented by our Chairman, Jim Last.

Most Improved Runner

There were several names up for consideration for this award, however, there can only be one winner and this year’s award goes to someone who has gone from just using running as a way of keeping fit for other things to now being seriously dedicated to the sport. He is training regularly and obviously with great quality as his best times continue to tumble and he moves up the ranks at the cross country events to become a top 20 contender. He’s a true example of what serious dedication can bring to your running results and we’re really hopeful that he’s gonna do himself and the club proud at London Marathon 2019.

Most Improved Runner for 2018 is: Lee Barber.

Flyer of The Year

This award is for someone who has gone above and beyond to offer their time and commitment to the club over the last year. This year’s winner has certainly done that.

This year he has really got himself involved with the club. He was an ever-present at the beginner’s sessions, twice a week. He was superb at the RNR- committing himself for the entire weekend. And more recently, he has gained his Coaching Assistant award and is now involved with one of our junior groups. Quite simply- people like this chap are the ones that will keep our club going strong for years to come.

Flyer of the Year 2018 is Alex McGregor.

Performance of the Year 2018 goes to James Kelly– for completing his 200th parkrun at 86. A true Flyers legend and a really, really lovely fella too.

Club Champion

Our next award is for Club Champion. This is the easiest award to find a winner because it’s basically decided by how you perform at our summer 5k events. Improvement over the course of the summer is rewarded as is attendance at all 3 events. You also need to escape the handicapping radar if possible. This year’s winner managed to do all of those 3 things very successfully. He was under serious consideration for most improved runner but had to be discounted on the fact that he’d already won two awards- unprecedented in Flyers awards history!! Well done and huge congratulations to our

Club Champion of 2018 Alex McGregor

Plus, (and rather tongue in cheek!) the ‘Hang Your Head in Shame Award’ to Guy Hayward for his part in the destruction of public footpath signs in our area!
